- 1 medium green cabbage
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup uncooked rice (white or brown)
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 tsp dried basil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the core from the cabbage and peel off about ten large leaves. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic until fully cooked; drain excess grease.
- Stir in uncooked rice, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for five minutes.
- In a casserole dish, layer some leftover sauce at the bottom. Spoon the meat-rice mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll tightly.
- Place rolled leaves seam-side down in the dish, top with remaining sauce, and cover with foil.
- Bake for one hour until bubbly and thoroughly cooked.
