Description

Swiss steak is a comforting and hearty dish that features tender beef simmered in a savory tomato-based gravy, complemented by sautéed onions and bell peppers. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for family dinners or cozy weeknight meals, bringing warmth and flavor to your table while satisfying everyone’s appetite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless beef round steak
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), sliced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef round steak into serving-sized pieces and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add vegetable oil. Brown the seasoned beef on both sides for about five minutes each.
  3. Remove the meat from the skillet and add sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened, about three to four minutes.
  4. Return the browned beef to the skillet, then add diced tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour in the beef broth to maintain moisture and stir gently. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Cover with a lid, reduce heat to low, and cook for one hour or until tender.
