- 12 lasagna noodles (traditional or no-boil)
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 15 oz ricotta cheese (whole milk preferred)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (whole milk)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 24 oz marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat and mix in half of the marinara sauce; set aside.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the Parmesan, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; mix until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer three lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat sauce, and one cup of mozzarella.
- Repeat layers: noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
