  • 12 lasagna noodles (traditional or no-boil)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese (whole milk preferred)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (whole milk)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 24 oz marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat and mix in half of the marinara sauce; set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the Parmesan, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; mix until smooth.
  4. Spread a thin layer of marinara on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer three lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat sauce, and one cup of mozzarella.
  5. Repeat layers: noodles, remaining ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
