Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast (7g)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (57g)
  • Filling of choice (pastry cream, Nutella, or fruit jam)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). Mix in sugar, eggs, butter, and flour until a dough forms.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Punch down dough and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into circles using a donut cutter.
  4. Place on parchment-lined sheets; cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer; fry donuts until golden brown for about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and dust with sugar while warm.
  6. Fill with desired filling using a piping bag.
