- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices American or cheddar cheese
- 4 slices sourdough or Texas toast
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Add onions and bell peppers to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
- While simmering, butter one side of each slice of bread.
- On the unbuttered side of one slice, spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe mixture and top with two slices of cheese. Place another slice of bread (buttered side up) on top.
- Grill in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown and crispy on both sides (about 3 minutes each). Serve hot with pickles or chips.
