  • 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and pit the cherries.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a splash of olive oil until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add the pitted cherries, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and cayenne to the saucepan. Stir well.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes until the cherries break down.
  5. Blend the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or regular blender.
