Description

Bomboloni, the ultimate Italian donuts, are heavenly treats that are light, fluffy, and filled with your choice of creamy goodness. Dusted with sugar and boasting a soft texture, these delightful pastries make for the perfect indulgence at any occasion. Whether you’re celebrating a special event or just treating yourself, making bomboloni at home is a rewarding experience that brings a touch of Italy right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pudding or pastry cream (vanilla or chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl; let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Roll out the risen dough to about 1/2 inch thick; cut into rounds using a donut cutter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pot over medium heat (350°F). Fry each donut until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Fill each donut with pudding or pastry cream using a piping bag and roll in granulated sugar while warm.
