  • 2 lbs beef round steak
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for searing

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef round steak into serving-sized pieces and pound gently with a meat mallet.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the steak pieces on both sides until browned (about 5 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion and bell pepper until soft (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and canned tomatoes; stir well.
  4. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Return seared steaks to the skillet, spooning sauce over them. Cover and reduce heat to low; simmer for 1 hour until tender.
  6. Serve over mashed potatoes or rice with extra sauce drizzled on top.
